Walking the dog this morning I bumped into an old and faded government-issue informational ad about the Coronavirus pandemic and how to keep yourself safe.
2020 and 2021 – the worst years of our lives so far.
It is hard to believe how quickly governments around the world clamped down on civil freedoms and domestic liberties in the name of “safety”.
From using uncomfortable facemasks, to blanket bans over whole industries, with the intended purpose of “discouraging social interactions”.
I live in a tropical city with a vibrant nightlife, and the charisma of this beautiful place was quickly killed off by the corona pandemic and it’s many restrictions and disruptions that were hastily enacted by ignorant, fearful and cowardly governments all over the world.
When I saw the ad this morning, I thought to myself:
Never before in human history, so many surrendered so easily, at such extraordinary cost, for so little gain.
And now, governments know how easily they can disable freedoms and civil society.
