37. Birthday

Happy birthday to my dear Ms Ace: I love you to the moon and back.

I have never stopped loving you at all.

Not once. The best part is that I also loved you more than 25 years ago. Imagine that!

A lifetime.

Even when I am inside the bleakest storm you are a white beacon that will take me home. You represent the good in a world full of misfit Jedi’s and dark forces.

It is thanks to you that I have grown up as an individual.

Just a cheesy thought: I have spent countless hours with you, and you know me better than the other eight billion people in this planet put together.

We have travelled the world and we have lived through experiences in so many countries. We have climbed, visited, eaten, dined, danced, argued, washed dishes and played bowling inĀ  5 different countries. Or six?

I fear other people, but I do not fear you. I come to you in peace, even when I am fuming and being childish. You are the centre of my life.

Living with you I have learned many lessons. About you. About me. About the importance of a family. About responsibility. About commitment and excellence.

I now know that I am a very difficult citizen and I have serious behavioural problems. I could be so much better in many ways.

I will get there. I have felt like I haven’t felt in many months. I am entering an older age, and I am grateful I can work on fixing my issues.

I promise you this.

Working out the future with you is irresistible and I am ready to do it again. With you.

We have to look at the next few months with certitude and ingenuity.

The world is changing too quickly and in unpredictable ways and the cause of Humanity is now in danger.

Ads watch us. Mobile phones are tools of surveillance. Artificial intelligence will make you jobless. Global warming will kills us off.

And we do not value anonymity and independence anymore.

Freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom of want and freedom of fear have disappeared entirely, replaced by a slow motion Danse Macabre. The lives we live now could have been filmed as the introduction to an apocalyptical film of the 1980s.

I really miss the 1980’s.

We life in a confluence of media power, religious intolerance, casual displays of antisocial behaviour, cultural wars, mass indoctrination, questioning of futile motives, use of weasel words and outright lies.

And irreversible ecological destruction: this one will probably get to us first.

We are fucked.

Sorry the future is not looking great. I hope we are still here by your next birthday, Ms Ace.

I love you.
